Hypothesis of refutation of the sacrificial foundation of knowledge in The Heroic Frenzies by Giordano Bruno.
Abstract
In The Heroic Frenzies Bruno uses the myth of Actaeon to address the theme of the search for sapiential truth through the interpretation derived from the traditional hunting metaphor. In this Brunian version, the classical myth takes on a positive value, as the hero’s dismemberment by the action of his dogs, after seeing the reflection of the goddess Diana, becomes the image of a radical transformation of the subject of knowledge and a reconsideration of the limits of his intellect, in order to create a new relationship between man and nature conceived as infinite matter-life. Concerning the philosophical tradition, it seems that Bruno reinterprets the metaphor by questioning that approach to the search for knowledge based on violent appropriation, which reveals in itself a sacrificial structure.
